Djembe is Concordia College's Journal of Intercultural Affairs. It is a yearly publication of student artwork, essays, and articles all surrounding intercultural topics.
As the designer for the 2020 edition of the journal, I also wanted to design and code a website in the same basic style. I wanted the layout to be very simple and clean with defined columns of text and images to resemble a magazine. The use of an earthy but vibrant color palette worked nicely for a non-distracting but still engaging background to let the work within speak for itself. It is optimized for both desktop and mobile views.
There are 4 unique pages. An about page that gives basic information about the journal, a staff page that lists the current staff and their positions, an editions page that will house the newest edition of the journal once it is released as well as an archive of all the old editions which each have their own pages with scans of every page and interactive tables of contents, and lastly a submit page that allows students to submit their works to be considered for the journal.
